First oil reactors 220kV Type RTM by SVEL are mounted in Sakhalin, at Lermontovskaya Substation located in the western part of the island.
A distinctive feature of Sakhalin’s power system is their isolation and a significant number of remote facilities. The voltage at the ends of the lines can change abruptly, and daily load surges are rather often. Oil reactors are helpful, to maintain the quality of electricity in the grid. Overall, in the Far East, where infrastructure is being actively constructed and new capacities are being commissioned, the demand for such equipment grows, significantly.
This oil reactor Type RTM-20000/220-ВМ-U1 is developed from the scratch by SVEL as accumulated the best practice in the industry. The equipment is compact, vibration‑resistant and mechanically stable, capable to withstand harsh climatic conditions: temperature fluctuations, seismic activity up to 9, high humidity, and strong winds.
In the coming years, SVEL Group plans to expand the oil reactor product line by increasing their power and voltage class. Among the promising models is ROM‑60000/500, a standard machine for energy‑intensive industries (metallurgical, chemical, etc.) and long‑distance high‑voltage lines.
A specific focus of SVEL is the controlled shunt reactors. They differ from conventional ones by their response speed, meaning they stabilize the voltage in the grids, within a split second. This is extremely important under load instability caused by industrial consumers.
