At Ust-Khantayskaya Hydro Power Plant (Krasnoyarsk Territory), the sixth of seven 100MVA oil-immersed transformers by SVEL was mounted. Getting the power from the turbines, these transformers step-up the voltage to 220V, to output it to the grids. The environment class of the equipment proves that the transformer shall withstand cold weather up to minus 60°C, snowdrifts, and storm winds.
The hydro power plant in the Far North has been in operation, since 1975. It belongs to a closed power system providing electricity to the local industrial sites and the surrounding area. A distinctive feature of the station is their underground machine hall, to be more exact, it is located in the rock beneath the riverbed.
The gradual replacement of the transformers at Ust-Khantayskaya Hydro Power Plant started in 2020, when the new hydroelectric unit was installed. Besides the equipment delivery, SVEL Group is conducting the supervised installation activity.
Heavy machinery can be transported to the settlement where the hydro power plant is located only in summer, during the short navigation period, since is direct land road is there. The low roader with the transformer on board travels all the way from Yekaterinburg to Krasnoyarsk, then it is loaded to a ship at the river port, and then proceeds along Yenisei River and its tributary, for two weeks.
The shipment of the final 7th transformer from SVEL to Ust‑Khantayskaya Hydro Power Plant is scheduled for 2026.
