About the project
Nuclear power is an industry that imposes, perhaps, the highest requirements for products supplied to its facilities, from product quality to timing.
Therefore, orders for NPPs are a source of pride for SVEL Group. The company is among the few suppliers licensed to design nuclear power plants.
Smolensk NPP required a backup transformer for its own needs.
SVEL Solution
SVEL Group has supplied oil transformer 63 000/330 kV.
The product is implemented in accordance with the 3rd safety class, which includes systems whose damage can lead to the release of radioactivity localized inside the NPP. Previously, oil-immersed transformers did not belong to the 3rd class of safety, therefore, the experience of designing this transformer is the first not only for SVEL, but for the whole country.
This status of the equipment implies a special step-by-step control during acceptance, with the participation of representatives of the nuclear power plant. In addition, the manufacturer of safety class 3 products must obtain permission to use imported materials and components used for the transformer.
The customer needed to replace the old transformer with a new, energy efficient version. In this case, the new transformer had to be precisely installed in the place of its predecessor. This meant the need to preserve all the overall dimensions of the previous design.
The transformer was created at the request of the customer for a non-standard voltage class of 330 kV. SVEL Group already had experience in creating such products. Thus, we have successfully delivered the first 25,000/330 kV transformer to Kursk NPP.
