80MVA/24kV auxiliary dry-type cast resin transformer for Unit 2, Kurskaya Nuclear Power Plant has successfully passed the inrush current and short circuit tests. The testing conducted in late December 2023.
The expert verified the axial and radial stability of the windings, strength of the windings and pressing system, reliability of the fastened terminals and other crucial elements of the active part. Then, the active part was inspected, along with the dismantling of all three phases’ windings. No damage was identified.
The short circuit test is mandatory for all types of transformers, prior to their installation at nuclear power sites.
The packaged supply of SVEL products to Unit 2, Kurskaya NPP has been effected stage-by-stage, since 2020. It included 9 oil-immersed auxiliary transformers (general purpose, operating and reserve type) 40MVA to 80MVA, along with over 80 dry-type cast resin transformers 400kVA to 1,600kVA. In addition to that, the company plans to ship 533MVA single-phase module transformers with forced cooling, 330kV and 750kV, and those are intended for transferring the capacity of the power plant to the grids.
Kurskaya NPP was initiated in 2018, with duly compliance with the utmost safety and efficiency standards. It will become a critical element of the Central Federal District’s electricity system and replace two outdated units of the same NPP.
