During starting of a drive, the engine torque rise up to 150-200% within a fraction of a second, and it can lead to a failure of the drive’s kinematic chain. At that, the starting current can be 6 to 8 times higher than the rated one, and it would disturb the power stability.
Starting reactors allow avoiding these problems by slowing down the engine acceleration. It reduces starting currents and eliminate any jerk in the drive’s mechanical part, or any hydraulic shocks in the pipes and valves at drive’s start / stop.
Reactor starting is the simplest and the most cost-efficient. Low cost of the complex solution (as compared to smooth-start).
